Our family-owned and operated business services Wānaka and the surrounding areas - but ‘local’ means more to us than just that.
We’ve been in the area a wee while, so we understand and love all the little quirks of gardening here - from growing in an alpine desert (don’t be fooled by how green and lush everything seems!) to native and climate-appropriate planting.
We pride ourselves on great service and a passionate, friendly and highly experienced team. Doug has a longstanding professional background in garden maintenance and design in the UK and in New Zealand. After living and working as a gardener here in Wānaka for six years, he took the step of starting to work for himself, creating ‘Doug the Gardener’, in 2017. Since then, over 600 clients locally have been serviced by the business, which has developed a reputation as the Wānaka community’s favourite gardening service.
We travel to Hāwea, Cromwell and Luggate for an additional fee for our clients who are further afield.

Our friendly team brings a genuine love of plants and gardens, and a high level of training and expertise to every job.
We work on everything from large-scale rural properties to commercial jobs and residential backyards, and we’re a pretty flexible bunch. So, if your garden is in need of regular maintenance, a little TLC or a total overhaul, get in touch!
We offer the full range of gardening and groundskeeping services, including mowing (large and small lawns), hedge trimming, planting out, irrigation management and weeding and pruning.
We do all things horticulture, including helping with the design and creation of smaller to medium garden areas, sourcing plants and maintaining paths and driveways.
We offer everything your lawn needs to keep it looking great, including a fertilising regimen, dethatching, core aeration and overseeding using American-made golf course quality machines.
